Drake Gets Love From Jamaica During 'Find Your Love' Shoot

Posted by mkhan on 28.4.10 , under , , , , | comments (0)

Cash Money/ Young Money, all one big family. The Birdman recently went out to Rochester Hills, Michigan, to be a surprise guest on Drake's Away From Home Tour. Baby joined Drizzy for "4 My Town (Play Ball)," and after the show Drake shared some downtime with the multimillionaire CEO. Sitting in the Birdman's tour-bus lounge, Drake told us about his recent trip to Jamaica where he shot the video for the Kanye West-produced "Find Your Love," a track on the June 15 LP Thank Me Later.

"We went to Kingston," Drake said. "We went to this 'hood. They call it the 'gully' side. It's bad out there, real bad. They had 'Young Money' sprayed on the gates, 'Drake and Wayne,' 'cause I came to shoot the video out there. I'm talking about you drive by people's homes, they had 'Drake,' 'Young Money,' 'Drake, Welcome Here,' 'Drake We Love You' — crazy sh--, man. It was so crazy. This dude was like, 'Original Weezy tha God! You tha boss! Weezy tha God!' It's crazy. They love us, 'cause we show love out there."

It's April 20 — you know what that means. Some people are celebrating green day, and we're not talking about the rock band. In any event, check out these releases — some are celebrating today's theme and some aren't.

The Streets Is Talking: News and Notes From the Underground

No beef, the G's are getting money. We spoke to Brisco and he told us that his feud with Gucci Mane's Brick Squad is a thing of the past. Brisco took exception to one of Gucci's references to him on the first BurrPrint mixtape and disses flew between Brisc and the Atlanta faction. It's all water under the bridge and now these guys are focused on getting money and making music.

"I talked to Gucci two days ago. Everybody is good. Basically, it's just solidifying the greatness of the artists. Some greats clash at the top. I used that as a steppingstone and we put everything behind us and put us in God's hands. It really wasn't no beef and we didn't want it to lead to more unfortunate situations. I feel like it took real n---as to do it without Al Sharpton and political leaders. It's no beef. ... I'm about to do a record with Waka, Gucci, the whole set."

Brisco's Street Medicine LP is tentatively due in June through a partnership with Poe Boy Entertainment and Cash Money Records. His mixtape OG Kush is out now.

HP forks out $1.2 billion for struggling Palm - Money well spent

Posted by mkhan on , under , , , , | comments (0)

Following months of speculation and rumors, HP has announced that it will by struggling smartphone maker Palm for $1.2 billion. Was this money well spent?

Highlights on the press release:

HP and Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which HP will purchase Palm, a provider of smartphones powered by the Palm webOS mobile operating system, at a price of $5.70 per share of Palm common stock in cash or an enterprise value of approximately $1.2 billion. The transaction has been approved by the HP and Palm boards of directors.

The combination of HP’s global scale and financial strength with Palm’s unparalleled webOS platform will enhance HP’s ability to participate more aggressively in the fast-growing, highly profitable smartphone and connected mobile device markets. Palm’s unique webOS will allow HP to take advantage of features such as true multitasking and always up-to-date information sharing across applications.

So where’s this marriage going to go?

My take is that while Palm has, unsuccessfully, tried to reinvent itself over the past few years with handsets such as the Pre and Pixie, the company hasn’t managed to make much of a splash. Partly this is down to Palm being outmaneuvered by competitors such as Apple, HTC, Motorola and Nokia, but the biggest problem that Palm has has been crippled by not having a large enough ad budget or broad enough distribution channel compared to its competitors. This deal with HP should give Palm an enormous leg up.

But what’s in it for HP? Well, I can’t help but feel that the companies mobile devices line is somewhat stale, and bringing Palm onboard could mean a nice refreshed line of devices.

But is this partnership too little, too late? Apple is firmly entrenched at the leader of the pack when it comes to style, desirability and has a well-established platform and network of developers churning out apps. On top of this, we can expect a new iPhone to appear in June. RIM’s Blackberry also has firm roots in the enterprise market. On top of all this, Microsoft is getting ready to launch its Windows Phone 7 Series lineup of handsets, something which users have been hoping to see for a long time. Put all this together and all of a sudden HP/Palm is faced with an enormous mountain to climb.

Sandra Bullock Adopts New Baby Boy and Files for Divorce!

Posted by mkhan on , under | comments (0)

We all knew that the wonderful and talented Sandra Bullock would come to her senses and divorce that douchass Jesse James, but what we didn’t expect was the little secret that Sandra was keeping from the world.

Image via/People

In an interview with People magazine, the actress reveals that over 4 years ago, Bullock and James began the process of adopting a child and just this past January, things became finalized and the couple became parents to Louis Bardo Bullock. The actress tells the magazine:

“He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way. It’s like he’s always been a part of our lives.”

Wow, that came out of total left field, but I am glad she had a silver lining throughout all the drama this woman has had to endure the past few months. If you’ve been living under a rock (or you’re Steve Harvey), you probably wouldn’t know that Sandra Bullock’s soon to be EX-husband Jessa James had some mistresses come out and expose the affairs the “biker” had been having while married to Bullock.

Speculation began soon after as to whether or not Bullock would divorce the man, but this interview puts those rumors to rest. Sandra Bullock has already filed the papers for divorce and hopefully it will be resolved in a quick, private and timely manner.

Congrats to the new mother and I hope everything works out for you in the end! Much love from Close the Door, Please!

5 ways- to -make- money- online

. Social networking

It might seem like nothing more than a pipe dream but making money as you trawl through profiles of friends, prospective and ex boyfriends and girlfriends is actually a reality. Yuwie, an upstart social networking enterprise, offers to pay its users as they increase the page impressions of their public profiles, upload photos to share and refer others to join in the fun. All of this is achieved by a proportionate payment structure that sees around half of the website’s advertising revenue – its chief source of income - distributed directly to its user base.

Admittedly it’s still early days but with around half a million registrations to date and no shortage of testimonials, Yuwie looks like the real deal.

2. Blogging

There are two ways to make cash through blogging: either by earning commission from advertising banners placed alongside a blog of your own or by engaging in the (slightly dubious) practice of “sponsored” blogging. An array of third party tools is available in the case of the former option; Google’s AdSense remains one of the more popular solutions. Just establish yourself a decent blog, configure the ads and see what happens. Sponsored blogging on the other hand is an altogether more calculated affair, with specialists such as Blogitive and PayPerPost providing a platform through which companies essentially contract bloggers to post favourable content about their products in exchange for cash. Unethical, granted, though nonetheless undoubtedly fruitful for those subtle enough to get away with it.

3. Message boards

Every message board - both small-time niche operation and gargantuan general interest community alike - relies on posts from its members in order to sustain user interest. Newly-created forums are particularly dependent on regular contributions in order to encourage conversations and attract the registration of new members. This, of course, is where you come in. In exchange for a nominal fee of anywhere between £0.01 and £0.10 per post, message board administrators frequently advertise externally for “ringers” to sign up to their endeavours and get the ball rolling. Popular recruiting grounds include webmaster-talk and Digital Point.

4. Stock photography

If you’ve a keen eye for an impressive frame, or even just some half-decent camera kit at your disposal, selling pictures to any one of the plethora of stock photography agencies scattered across the web represents a sure-fire method of generating an income online. The likes of iStockPhoto and Fotolia offer budding photographers the incentive of earning potentially significant sums for their snaps on a per-download basis in exchange for their other royalty payment rights. Predictably, the most sought-after depictions are of a fairly mundane nature – think three-quarter view angles of pretty women dressed in suits – though equally inevitable is the high demand in some quarters for photographs of an altogether more risqué nature…

5. Surveys

As inglorious a means of making money online as you’re ever likely to find, completing market research surveys for cash is time-consuming, invasive and very, very dull. It also happens to be very effective. Opportunities in this field are virtually endless too, with literally thousands of research groups vying for your time and attention. Perhaps the most well known of these is YouGov, whose methodology involves obtaining responses from an invited group of internet users at prices ranging from £0.50 to £2.00 per survey completed. Registration is free and relatively painless, though if you are planning on going down this route, you would do well to create another email account solely for the purpose of survey completion – your personal details are going to be getting bandied around an awful lot.
